iDisk on IIgs

Hi,
one of the most annoying feature of iDisk is that you must set the
IIGS speed to "normal" or it don't work.
The iDisk team claim that it is perfectly compatible with the DISK II
controller but, if I will put a DISK II controller into a IIGS, it
works with the speed set to "fast".

On Technical Introduction to the APPLE IIGS, page 85 you can read:

There are three different ways of changing the operating speed.
First, the user can use the Control Panel to set the speed.
Second, if a slot has s DISK II controller card in it, the firmware
switches to the 1 Mhz speed whenever that slot is active, so that the
disk controller will work correctly....

I checked the ID bytes of the iDisk and they are correct:

$Cn01 = $20
$Cn03 = $00
$Cn05 = $03
$Cn07 = $3C

Do you know what the IIGS firmware may check for understand that the
card is an original DISK II Controller?
