After living off my Apple IIgs for the past seven years, I've finally
"upgraded" to a nice 286 (let's just say that my budget hasn't been very
flexible). I will, of course, be keeping my IIgs forever, and it seems
a shame to let its "retirement" translate to "never used anymore."
I would like to set up my IIgs as a small news site, primarily for my
private use, to carry e-mail and a limited number of newsgroups. I may
also consider opening it up to a few friends of mine as well to save
them the long distance call for news also.
Are there any programs out there for the IIgs that are capable of handling
a UUCP feed (or anything similar) to provide me with news and e-mail?
I did run a small public board of my IIgs for a couple years (I went thru
a variety of software, including Applenet, VM, and METAL/FV), so I have a
fair amount of experience with it. However, I haven't been around these
parts in a while, and last I remember, METAL/FV still was read-only Usenet
and no e-mail, and Proline was a couple hundred dollars more than I could
afford.
I would appreciate any pointers/suggestions anyone has, or any stories
about doing something similar. Post or e-mail is fine. Thanks!
