Re: What killed the Apple III

Hmmm...WARNING: POOR MEMORY SYSTEM INVOKED--

I seem to remember that *most* Apple ///'s didn't work very well. The big
problem, as I recall, was that heat buildup would cause the chips to work
loose. The usual solution when your A3 failed was to lift the machine and
drop it roughly 4" to the desk surface. Remember, the A3 had a built-in
floppy drive and was roughly twice the size of a ][+...and was designed to
accomodate a ProFile hard drive on top, with a Monitor /// (GOD I hate
those things!) on top of that.

I was among the most suprised people in America when Apple announced the
"Macintosh LC-III". The LC-II didn't suprise me, in fact, for a while I
thought Apple couldn't wait to figure out a way to slap a 'II' onto ANY
product. But as the various ]['s, //s, and IIs became more and more
enhanced, it seemed they were superstitiously opposed to ever using a
'III' on anything ever again!

(So why didn't they just call it the Mac LC-IV?)
