Transferrings Apple2e files to IBM, How????

I typed a 900 page book on the Apple2e computer using the AppleWorks
program.  I have since bought an IBM computer and would like to transfer
the files to this format.   How do I do this?  I don't see an ASCII format
in the AppleWorks program that came with the computer.   Did I miss
something?   

Second question:   Can an Apple2e computer be enhanced, upgraded?  If so,
how?   I have children that want to use it.
