This is true. Since I am not really willing to spent a lot of money on a
video card with basically not much software support, $300 is a lot of
money.

I again agreed with your point. But your point leads me to Second Sight.
First, Second Sight will be cheaper. And Second Sight might have more
software support (because I think software like GNO, Telcom II, etc will
be supporting SS rather than TR).
