It is not an -e chip.  The 14MHz chip is a production chip, and
yes it only is about $20, but the minimum order from WDC is $100.
I don't really know about the stability, but I'm sure some people
have had some good luck.

I believe I've heard of one person, but I also think it was
described as an extremely fragile rat's nest of wires, so
I don't think that this mod is for everyone :)
