Our family has an ImageWriter II on our GS and we really like it.
We use the color capability quite often in conjunction with The
Print Shop GS and The Print Shop Companion, and paint programs
like Deluxe Paint II and Platinum Paint. The color isn't nearly
as good as a DeskJet, but fine for everything we've used it for
at home and it doesn't need any special drivers (though we like
using Harmonie's IW-II driver).
Until last summer ours didn't have a hard drive either. For a
number of years we used it with 1.25 Mb of RAM and two 3.5"
floppy drives. Later we added a 4Mb RAM card and used FlashBoot
to set up a 2.4 Mb RAM disk and used it as a psuedo hard drive.
This served us very well until we finally bit the bullet and put
a 60 Mb QDrive on it.
BTW, the going rate on used IW-II's seems to be $150-200, and
four color ribbons should still be readily available. We also
bought some ribbons to make color iron-ons from Quality Computers,
but haven't tried it out yet.
Have fun!
