While I do not know of a freeware program that will convert GIFs to
SHRs, I do know of a way to 'capture' GIFs as SHRs. It takes a gif
viewing program called GIFview (one source: cco.caltech.edu
pub/apple2/graphics/viewers/gifview11.shk) and a CDA called 'SHR
10-sec Timed Save'. The second I could not find in the full grind
catalog. Mine came on disc from a freeware/shareware house.

The combination in my system is a little bit flaky: crashes the
machine after about 6 or 7 uses if I do not also use a third program,
a CDA named 'purge.mem' after every 4 uses. It also seems to require
a re-boot now if I run a Prodos program afterwards, although this is
a new bit of flakiness - some sort of conflict I imagine, but one I
am willing to live with.
