I would like to second Matthew Pearce's recommendation of the HP
printers for use with the IIgs.  There is no better supported inkjet
printer for the IIgs.  I have the DJ 520.

For printing from both Prodos (AppleWorks, Proterm) and GS/OS (AWGS,
Spectrum) programs, an HP DeskJet varietal is required.  This is the
suggestion HP line for the IIgs.  If printing only from GS/OS
programs, the DeskWriters will work just fine.

Regardless, printing from GS/OS programs will require a printer
driver.  Again, I second Matthew's recommendation.  Vitesse does sell
a printer driver packaged aimed specifically at the HP line for about
ten dollars less than the full driver package (Epson, ImageWriter,
etc).

The newer HP DeskJets, HP DJ 540 (single cartridge color or b&w), HP
DJ 560C (dual cartridge color and b&w) and the recently discontinued
yet still new HP DJ 520 (single cartridge b&w) have only a parallel
interface and thus require a parallel card for the IIgs.

The older, discontinued DeskJets, HP DJ 500 (single b&w), 500C
(single color or b&w), and 550C (dual color and b&w) had both serial
and parallel interfaces.  These can be found wherever used printers
are sold; such as on the misc.forsale groups.  These are fairly
rugged printers and as long as they have not been grossly mistreated
should be safe purchases.  Some places might even have these forsale
new at tremendous discounts.
