Help in bug squashing please

Hiyas to all those bug squasher types.
	I have this problem with my GS, I think some of the files are
kind of "slightly corrupted".  Sometimes, my GS boots with no
problems, sometimes it hangs/crashes.  If it crashes, the next few
reboots usually crash too, but if I shift-boot, and then do a full
boot, it won't crash.  Weird huh?  Looks like some kinds of files were
flagged open, and a shift boot closes them, so that I can boot next
time, can this happen?
	More interestingly, I was in GNO last night, and after logging
in, I got onto the phone with my girlfriend 8-) and so didn't touch
the keyboard for quite a bit.  Out of the blue, my GS crashed.  I had
debug installed, so it went there.  I was still on the phone... and
after another while, my GS crashed again! [yes, from inside debug,
without me touching the keyboard all these while] and after I got off
the phone with her, none of the keys work...  Does anyone have any
ideas which bug/whatever causes this to happen?  Have anyone ever seen
this problem?
	I'd hate to have to reinstall system 601 again, doing an
installation every couple of weeks really suck big rocks.
	So, can you'll bug squasher types post how do you'll track
down such bugs and squash them?  I'm thinking that maybe a few files
got corrupted (but why does it let me boot sometimes, but not others? 
No changes were made at all between reboots) and if I could find the
source of the corruption, my system might have a slightly longer
uptime... (heh, I had even crashed into debug once going from gs/os
into prodos 8 - it was already in prodos 8, right before executing the
sys file 8-))
	I'll be watching this group as well as my mail box and will
post a summary if there's enough posts to justify one (whether or not
I managed to fix my problem or not... :))

for those of us not so well versed in such.
pps: heh, I got a "unknown error" from sysfail once too... I should
have copied the info down 8-(
