Martin,
While it sounds nice, it just is not going to happen. Trying to
get Apple to return to doing anything with the ][ family is a waste of time
and effort. That effort will be better spent encouraging and working with
those folks who are still supporting the Apple ][ family of computers.
Time and time again it has been proven that Apple execs can not be
embarassed by others. And who in the Microsoft world do you think will listen
to your sob story of a company that discontinued a product that you happen
to own? It happens all the time, especially in the computer world. Nobody
really can do anything about it. I would love to buy a new Corvair from
General Motors and others would like a new Pinto from Ford. No matter how
much I want it, it will not happen.
Apple ][ technology, while quite capable, and more than most people,
even in business, need to get their work done, will not sell today. Not even
to schools. The computer world has grown up past that era, and will not return
to those golden days of yester year. Enjoy what you have while it works, but
be ready to stop using a computer one day, or convert to some other platform.
The iron really does not make much difference in the final analysis. It is
the software, and actually, the output. If you can use a tool to get your
work done, you use it. Using the tool is not the job, rather the report or
spreadsheet information or whatever is the product.
And if you are into games, you really need to either check out some
of the current games for the MS-Dos world or get into the game machines like
Nintendo, Sega and others. The game machines make much more sense in dollars,
than a computer for strictly playing games.
I sympathize with your frustration, but the bottom line is that we
have to face reality and continue with our lives...without Apple.
Jack
