First, if you're going to use a GS with a high speed modem, as with any
computer, you need a hardware handshaking cable.  You can use one from
Best Buy or CompUSA (which rarely carries these) or Elektek, and it is
called "Macintosh to High Speed Modem cable (hardware handshaking at all
speeds is sometimes said as well)."  It will run you about $7-$10, and
then you shouldn't have many problems.  Use ProTerm for your comm program,
and you should fare just fine, even at 2.6 (2.8?) MHz.  ProTerm has very
good serial port handling, and I didn't lose characters when my accelerator
was in the shop and I was calling other BBSes :)
