Re: GS Paint Program Info wan

Hmmm, there are a couple of good graphics packagaes out there, but the funds
limitation is a bit of a problem. A reasonable solution would be to drop a
Sequential Systems 4 Mb card in it, add FlashBoot (Quality Computers) to set
up a little 2.4 Mb RAM disk, and Platinum paint as your software tool.

Plan "B", try to scrounge up a second-hand copy of Deluxe Paint II. For some
things I like it better than Platinum Paint, though I don't think it'll run
on less than 768 kb of RAM and even then not all of the features will run.

Plan "C", look for stuff off of commercial and FTP sites like Cheap Paint or
256 Paint (?). The problem is that with only 512 kb of RAM you're going to
have to run an ancient version of the system software with all it's problems.

Unless they're willing to give you a reasonable budget (say $300 for plan
"A") I'd be tempted to forget it. Why bang your head against the wall in a
loosing proposition? I'm at a loss why people (and I mean your supervisors,
not you) expect something for nothing. Non of these folks would try to run a
PC with 320kb of RAM and a low-density floppy, but they expect you to run a
GS under similar conditions. As one of the disk librarians for our user group
I see this all the time. "I want a state-of-the-art word processor....is
there one for free?". Ack! It's enough to drive you to drink.

Have fun! Maybe they'll get their Amiga and give the GS to you.
