IRC #AppleIIGS - It's for the birds

Since there will no doubt be a great deal of regurgitation of misfacts
about this occurrence which you will certainly be hearing more about, let
me be the first to set the record straight.

It is unfortunate that I can no longer find any redeeming value in
IRC channel #AppleIIGS that makes up for the utter filth that
normally fills it.

I would like to stand up for Rich Wifall (TheJazz), who is nothing but a 
gentleman; for Dave Roberts (daver) , who is young, but has great promise 
of becoming a gentleman even for his faults; and for Joe Lee (OrionPax), 
Mark Miller (markm), Frank Lin (potty) , David Ong (dotw), (the rare and 
wonderful) Tim Meekins (mx6), Brian Tao (Traycer), and Jay Craft (Rifrain, 
the falsetto king), all of whom were the reason I stayed there the last 
few months. If you can find the time to talk to any of these people, do so;
they are a pleasure and well worth the time!

But avoid doing it on #AppleIIGS. For every Rich Wifall there are two
dirtballs unworthy of the moniker "homo sapiens".

I would not send my worst enemy to #AppleIIGS (as few enemies as I
have - it takes a lot of time & energy to entertain an honest-to-God
enemy!).  If they survived the grilling process, reminiscent of
the worst Marine Corps (or Frat House) hazing, they would be treated
to one of the most disgusting displays of misogyny, crudeness, 
lack of respect for people and politeness, and 5th-grade antics, 
the essence of which even a slug like Oliver Stone would have trouble
replicating.

Attempt to stand up for any of the victims of this, and you are
automatically a miscreant, or "evil" (really! I was called "evil!"
for saying NO MORE to harassment of a particular individual). 
Basically, I was put up against the wall for having (and asserting)
principles, by people who frown upon principles as something only
crazy people believe in. So sue me.

As many things as Joe Kohn and I disagree on, the issue of the value
of #AppleIIGS is no longer one of them. I had been evading the issue
for quite some time, and I now understand what a terrible thing
I've done, in regards to sanctioning that kind of behavior (and even
getting caught up in it from time to time. Ick. I have a lot to make
up for.)

To anyone who still wants to talk about the Apple IIGS on IRC, 
my nick is 'bazyar'. Just "/msg bazyar Hello!" and we can start
a conversation (maybe even set up a permanent channel) that
_actually_ contains IIGS-related talk besides Ian's latest 
high-handed moral condemnation of my work priorities.
