Re: School Has Started

I too am a teacher who has been following this thread for a few days now
(too many days) and I agree with the latest post that pointed out that
Joe's original post was about students getting denied access...because some
idiot teacher thought that a few cusses outweighed the overall value of this area.
However, I don't think that is a real concern. Most students who are on the
net and checking out the comp.sys.apple areas aren't doing it at school...
since the schools are a _declining_ market for Apple in general...Apple II's
are being sold off or (gasp) thrown out, and Macs are losing ground to DOS and
Windows machines due to Apple's typical marketing idiocy.
I think that we will find that any obscenity will not keep many students off this area. I do _not_ see any problem with Joe's _asking_ people to stop
cussing, and think his followup post about Rules of Access had more to do
with the no doubt heavy flaming that he received in response to his original
post.
If any teachers are keeping kids off the net because of swearing, then the
teacher isn't probably worth much anyway, so the kids are probably losing out
on more than net access.
Then again, who said the net was here to provide for the public school system?
