lcc? Where?

I heard someone mention on here once before about a C compiler called lcc
that was available for UNIX boxes that produced GS code, but that lcc hadn't
been ported to the GS yet.  Is this true, and if so, where can I get lcc and
who wrote it?  I'm going to be starting a C compiler project for the GS myself
soon (some part of it is due at the end of the semester), and I'd love nothing
more than to have a good starting point...  Any information would be 
appreciated.
