Personally, when it comes to GIFs, the only program I use is the
pre-release of LordHighGiffer, by Todd Whitsel. (hope I got his
last name right :) LHG is also known as LordLowGiffer, 'cause
Todd still had a ton of improvements to make before he'd relase
it. I got it directly from him with the understanding that it
not be distributed. Even in it's unfinished state, it does
a wonderful job in grayscale mode on GIFs, and a decent job on
them in color. And the scrolling (for bigger than 320x200 pics)
is beautiful.
Far as I know, Todd's never completed LHG. Unfortunately.
