Re: Apple ][gs VGA Card
I talked to Jawaid about the resolution, and he says that you can have up to
1024x768 resolution with board and 256 colors on screen at once. No, it will
not immediately, miraculously make Finder 1024x768, although that would nice
(aw, c'mon, somebody rewrite quickdraw). Also, about the speed on the card.
It has its own 20 mhz processor onboard. Even though you can only upload
graphics to the board at 1 meg per second, which isn't that bad considering
that a 800x600 screen is only around 500k, you can move data around on the
board at 16 megabytes per second :) That sure is nice IMHO :)
Also, you can have a VGA monitor hooked up as well as the GS monitor. One
through the port on the back on the card, and the GS monitor thru the port on
the GS itself (no VGA thru the GS port, only the card's).
Discquest will be upgraded to take advantage of the Second Sight card, which by
itself is a plus -- no more scrolling around the screen just to see what a
person looks like, and no more of those narsty space bar scalings :) The
encyclopedia will be great with 256 colors and 800x600, if I may say so myself
:)
Now if only someone would write a paint program to use this thing, or an NBA
for Hyperstudio that would let me use it...
Who knows...
