Re(2): What's going on with 1
Hi Ian!
I think some of the best software out there was written for the very
reason you mentioned. Specifically, it was written becuase the authors wanted
a certain package that was otherwise unavailable. Particularly if you have a
day job:)
That's how my astronomy software came about, I wanted a general purpose star
atlas/planetarium/almanac program for my Apple II. I've found that writing
the program is the easy part. The HARD part is adding the crash-proofing and
the documentation. Comet Finder was another fun program. It came about 'cause
I wanted to see want comet orbits looked like in 3D.And there are other
examples, but the point is, they were written to solve a need I had first.
The nature of computer media makes it nice that you can share the finished
product with other folks as well.
I don't know if you saw my earlier post or not, but I wanted to be sure and
let you now how much we enjoy MOD Zap. It's always a big hit at our local
computer show (ComputerFest) and my kids love it! After they get their
jammers on we'll sometimes play a few MODs the kids go crazy over to get the
last bit'o energy out of them before they go to bed :)
Have fun!
John
