Hey, guys... Thanks once again.  I got three replies since last night
all suggesting the same thing...(probably something I should have
thought of... sorry).  I checked the boot block on my harddrive... All
zeroed out!!!  So definitely that was the cause of my trouble.  Now what
caused that block to wipe out is another question, but I'll worry more
about that if it happens again.
  
Just wanted to let everyone know the problem's been fixed and you were
all on the right track.  Thanks a million!
