Give that man a cee-gah! According to everything I ever read about it,
the Apple IIx was originaly designed as a dual processor (65c02/68000)
system to provide a "bridge" between the Apple II and Macintosh
enviroments.
Also... (as I remember it) Steve Wozniak was the one who convinced Apple
to drop the design (Woz was consulting with Apple on the next generation
Apple II, loved simplicity and disliked dual cpus) in favor of using a
single processor design with the 65816 (which had just become available).
