It seems that you worry too much. :-)
If you really want to be safe, you could pass the bad original to the
person who has a working copy. That way there is NO question that you are
entitled to have the code. LEGAL??? IMHO Since you DO have the original
disk, who really cares AND will chase you down like a MAD DOG?
