Yes.  There is now a ROM 3 but it is not a simple update.  It is a
motherboard replacement (costing around $150 from All-tech) and is
not necessary at all.  I do not know what the all the differences are
but I am working quite happily with a ROM 1.

Connecting a IIGS to a SCSI hard drive is actually quite easy.  All
you need is a SCSI card, cable, and a SCSI drive.  Connecting cheaply
is all in the eye of the beholder.  There are two main SCSI cards:
Apple High Speed SCSI ($100 if currently available) and RamFast
($130-$190 depending on options).

The installer program that comes with the disks for System 6.0.1 has
making an 800k disk as one of its options.  It is a pretty limited
version of 6.0.1 and I would whole-heartily suggest getting a hard
drive attached to your GS if you are going to be using it.

Sys 6.0.1 can be purchased from the major A2 retailers, Big Red
Computer Club, your local Apple2 users group, etc.  You can get the
disks alone or disks with manual.  If you need a list of A2 sources,
