My SupraFAXModemV.32bis does the same thing occasionally. I believe it's
just because the modem is a little noisy on the phone line when it turns
on, and makes enough of a spike to make the cordless extension think it's
a ringer signal. When you don't want to wake up the wife, try unplugging
the phone line from the Supra before you power it up.
