AOL and Apple Users

I've also heard that AOL is no longer distributing the Apple II and
IIGS versions of the AOL software; ie, no new Apple II users will be
allowed to sign on.  Once the ones that are there have left, the Apple
II areas will eventually be closed down.

Though there may be some others who've reported it, I ranted on about this
on the Fidonet Apple echo. I called to get a new subscription, and was told
point blank after two full attempts to clarify that the sales preson was
told specifically that they are not to send out any Apple II versions of
their software to new subscribers.

Art Umland (ArtU on AOL) posted a copy of my message, and received a reply
from Advisor JQ that this was not the case. Also, one of the Apple area
hosts bemoaned the posting of such rumors.

The latter set me off. I've sent a copy of all correspondence to both that
advisor and Steve Case, asking for clarification. Having been on staff there
(dynasoar01, in the NSS area) I know how sales and support can differ in
their information. But I've never been able to determine any reason *why*
they so often differ in the negative direction towards Apple users.

I expect to get a reply, though I could probably get a quicker one by now
just by calling and asking for an Apple II software subscription.

Had it not happened to me, I wouldn't have thought it was more than a rumor
either, so I don't fault the AFC(?). It just eats my lunch when they
specifically contradict themselves in a manner that indicates something more
than a miscommunication. I mean, they've been sending out Apple software all
these years. Nobody with any grasp of reality would suddenly get the idea
that they weren't supposed to unless they were told that specifically.
