   Reboot it. When it says 'Apple IIGS' at the top of the screen, look
at the bottom. It will say what version it is, if it's an 01 or an 03.
If it says nothing, it's an 00.

   Either bug Apple, or contact Alltech. They were selling ROM chip
(and VGC [Video Graphics Controller] updates) from 00 to 01 at one
point; hopefully they still do. You can only take an 00 to an 01 by
chip replacements; the 03 is a different beast that has a different
motherboard layout.
