Sorry, Noah. You are just as dead wrong about this, as it is possible
to be. Software is (more or less) protected by copyright. Fail to defend
that copyright diligently, and you lose that copyright to the public domain.
Here is a big hint for you. Look up the term, "aspirin", sometime.
(Maybe CS cirricula need to include a lot more history courses. Those
who don't remember the past...)

Sorry, boys, but I'm no more interested in hypothetical cases than the
courts are. This is an actual example of how someone chose to abandon
property -- I know, my back hurt for a day after I helped him carry it
