ProTERM Emulation for VT100????

MM{>A friend is having trouble trying to talk with his apple iigs on a
M{>qmodem2400 to a sun unix box. Resetting the term env doesn't seem to
M{>help for either appleII or vt100. He gets extra characters and soemtimes
M{>sees the escape characters on the screen. His emulation mode is set for
M{>vt100. Any other tweaks you can recommend? Thanks.
What comm program are you using? On some programs like ProTerm there are
several types of emulation, even two versions of vt100. (ProTerm has
"ANSI-BBS" and "DEC VT-100" and they are slightly different.)
First, of course, make sure it's set to one of these. If it doesn't work
quite right and you have ProTerm, use the other. I find that ANSI-BBS is
usually better.
If you're using another comm program, check to make sure all the
settings are perfect. (Parity, Data bits, Stop bits, emulation...) Most
likely the settings should be 8,N,1 vt100, although some modems are
different and might use 7,N,1...fiddle with it and see...
