<You got your IIgs in *April* 1986?  They weren't released until September!
I got mine in September (Sept 26 in 86), and have never replaced the battery (as far as I can tell, it was teh first GS sold in Alaska).  I've had my IIe->GS upgrade since 90, and it's still going fine too
