$20 unidisk repair
Well no one seemed to know when I asked about swapping any ol' 800K drive
mechanism into a unidisk 3.5 so I'll tell ya. I got myself a castoff mech
from a misc.forsale.computers.mac person for $20 and took apart my drive
and did the swap. It's working great so far. I tried some disk operations
with it and my other unidisk and the new mech seemed to be a lot faster
than the old drive. Does that make sense?
Anyhow this is the thing to do for anyone with a bad 3.5. I recall getting
one of my grey drives fixed at the dealer and paying ~$230 back in the days.
I prefer a do-it-yourself $20 repair myself.
While I'm posting I'll try another question: The unidisk 3.5 card won't support
more than 2 devices even with ProDOS 2.0 will it? I have two unidisks and a
Chinook hard disk and it would be cool to use them all but I don't figure I
can. Can I?
