AppleII+ <-> PC Serial Connection Problem

Hi,

I have problems connecting a PC to an Apple II+ clone.
I'm using a Serial Pro from Applied Engineering on the Apple side and as far
as I can see, the card works - the setup program on the card pops up OK and
the clock also does what it should. In addition I made up a loopback cable
(that is short TxD - RxD, RTS - CTS, and DSR - CD - DTR) and using the builtin
terminal feature all characters I type are received ok.
(NO - local Echo is not enabled :-)

But when I connect the card to the PC via usual nullmodem cable (wiring as
stated above but for two sides respectively PLUS ground wire) all I get on the
Apple side is combinations of Backslashes, Asterisks and ATs. On the PC side I
receive different characters but also not what I was supposed to get.
The line parameters are set up appropriately and I tried with or without
XON/XOFF handshaking, hardware handshaking, no handshaking.....

Could anyone give me a hint, please ??

Thanks in advance

  Gerrit
