APW 4 and printers--a few questions.

 As I am a PhD student in literature, I am required to do a
significant amount of writing.  I am also a devoted Apple II
user using a //e, Appleworks 4, and PublishIt 4.  I am looking
for printer with high print quality (primarily text) which I
can use with these programs and is priced below $400.  Any
suggestions.
 
I've been looking into the HP series and have a couple
questions.  Can the HP Deskjet 520 use the same print drivers
as the HP Deskjet 500?  Are there any real benefits of the 520
over the 500 when used in these programs?  Is it possible to
use an HP Laserjet IIP or compatible with these programs and,
if so, how?
