I just recently encountered the same problem trying to get binscii.
I found a text file on the net called binscii.exe. Try the ftp sites
apple2.archive.umich.edu in dirctory /archive/apple2 or
wuarchive.wustl.edu in directory /systems/apple2/umich.edu
Make sure when you transfer it to your Mac, it is transferred
as a text file.
I noticed that there were comments at the beginning and
the end of the .exe file. Get into you favorite editor and get rid of them.
The first line of the file should read
CALL -151
The last two lines of the file should be
BSAVE BINSCII,A$1000,L$0E31
E00G
The Apple File Exchange will now correctly
transfer the .exe file as valid hex code
to the ProDOS disk.
Now, on your GS, type the following at the ProDOS prompt ']':
exec binscii.exe
You will see a few *'s fly by on the screen.
You will now see a file called binscii
Now type '-binscii' at the prompt and you should be in business.
