STM: Does it work on Black&White ?

Hello,

Subject says it: Is it possible to run STM on a Black and White Screen ?
The manual says 8 bit colors, I took that to mean it requires
32 bit Quick Draw. BUT: It also said Color Monitor. My Apple //
never had a color monitor, so, does the STM really need one ?
