Excuse me, but what's a hippie?

Since several people have emailed me to ask why on earth I would post of
message supporting Mr King, I'll just post my reasons. Of course, at this
point, since apologies have been issued, it's a moot point, but...

1) I posted a message defending Mr King after at least six flames directed
at him arrived at my site. Each succeeding flame seemed to be just a little
more hostile than the last.

2) Having been on the receiving end of several flame wars, I could empathize
with Mr King.

3) I dislike flames.

4) Flames in the Apple II world are very rare, except on c.s.a2.

5) I respect Mr King's ability as a writer, and am in awe of what he was
able to do with the Phoenix Project.

6) I dislike flames. They make me uncomfortable. They detract from the worth
of this newsgroup. Flames are not healthy, nor do they generally contain
constructive/postive criticism.

Maybe we can learn something from this latest incident? Maybe we should have
a "volunteer" for comp.binaries.apple2 (not a moderator). That volunteer
could serve as a 'netiquette cop'. And, could send a polite email to those
who post questions on c.b.a2, and could send polite reminders to those who
upload without including file descriptions.

Had someone sent Mr King a polite email message that said that there was an
unspoken convention (there is, after all, nothing in the FAQ about file
descriptions) to add descriptions, then this latest flame war might not have
ever broken out.

One last point...apologies have been issued. The war is over, and peace is
at hand.
