In the second edition, SmartPort is not really documented. The only thing
documented are the calling conventions of what Apple called "Protocol
Converter" at that time; no real technical information is contained.
The name "SmartPort" can be found in the ROM listings, and to figure
out what is going on and how it is possible to connect an intelligent
device to the IWM you'll have to read the listings which isn't easy
to understand (much of Apples ROM code is really dirty) and make guesses
about the IWM internals which are not documented at all. Other things are
also not documented, for example the ROM bank switching scheme. I often
get the impression Apple wilfully discarded several important sections in
the manual.
