That seems a litttle far-fetched. The 65c816 executes it's cycles
a lot more efficiently than a PC does; this will always be true.
Sorry, even thou your damn 80x86 machines can clock at true-50MHz,
you need speed to make up for your CPU-stupidity. :-)

The same could be said about the 80286 CPU, correct? "Oh, no one uses

B.S.. I use a 286/8 at home, and i'm perfectly happy with it; the
only thing I see which is making it slow is DOS. :-)

: just B.S. I have argued that with people, so I will just say that a 16-bit

: at 12MHZ) is not going to be as fast as 32-bit 386 running at any clock rate.

	Nope, it's not. Neither will a 386/33 compared with a Cray 5 or a
	SunSparc 20. Go figure.

Piracy makes the PC (IMHO) how it is today. The IIGS is living off

pc.*, you'll find a group of people foaming at the mouth, stating that
"Oh, your machine sucks if it can't run this program: It's too slow!"
Damn PC users are speed-hungry. We're going to have to set you all

BWHAHAHAHAHAAHA... NT sucks. I have *PC* users agreeing with me.
NT sucks. NT plain out sucks (I think 3 times is enough, eh?).
If you're going to use a 80x86 CPU, put it to USE: Run NetBSD or
Linux on it. Don't run DOS, don't run any OS Microsfot brings you.
It'll end up bringing YOU to your knees.

: documented. I read an article once that was called "Is the NT really crash

I crashed Windows NT in 5 minutes; loaded up 6 applications, did
some constant math calculations with them, ended them, and shut
down the machine: The damn thing locked at shutdown. How NICE:
NT then went absolutly *WACKO* the next time I brought the machine
up. All *TYPES* of FAT errors and X-linked files. Give me a break.
The thing needs a 32MB swap file even WHEN it has 20MB of RAM.
	Run OS/2. Sheesh.

: desktop GUI, it is made for workstations. SO no, it is not an example of bad

Right. You wanna talk programming? Most PC users out there don't
give a flying ---- about optimization. "Oh ya, well, my little
scroller takes up 75% of the CPU on this 286/12, but hey, it's
'cuz the machine is slow: Move it over here to this 486/DX50, and
hey, looks smooth to me! No more choppy-choppy!" - That's one of
the main things which drives me ***NUTS*** about PC users. They
blame their crappy code on CPU-speed; thank god for Future Crew.

: better than IIGS products. Too much money and quality time is spent with PC
: products. Also, when I said that the IIGS would die from PC software...again

I beg to 100% differentiate, in any way you want. I would have to
say that IIGS programs take longer to make than PC software. :-/
More time and work involved (which you're probably going to say
is 'cuz the machine is slow and old; wrong-o). We like our work.
We like our results. Period. I don't see the community of the PC
world joining together to keep itself alive; I don't see that type
	of friendliness.

Oh would it? I have yet to see a PC which does 32-oscillator based
sound right out-of-the-box. Oh no. Wait. You have to run down to
your store, wait a week for that thing call the Gravis UltraSound
to come in, pay them $200 or so, and go back home happy. Oh but wait,
what's that OTHER sound card you see: The Sound Blaster 16 ASP.
Oh ya, lets buy Creative Labs. :-/ No, lets not.
PCs out-of-the-box by themselves have NO graphic capability. How
	lame. :-/

: again I will say generously, a IIGS running at 12 MHZ can be loosely compared
: to a 286 12MHZ. Also, the IIGS coul never handle the Video output of such PC
: programs. The IIGS does a measely 4-bit color...pathetic. Instead of using
: the IIGS to draw wwith...I shoud use my old 64 color crayon set and get more
: colors out of it. Of course you're gonna say .."no, the IIGS has 4096 colors
: possible"..but I say who the hell cares...the PC has a standard 262144
: colors..and most today come with 16.8 million. And you want ot talk about

The PCs today come w/ 16.8 million colours after you go out and
	BUY a true-colour card like the Orchid 1280. :-/ That's not im-
pressive, atleast to me. Plus, if I wanted nice graphics, i'd go
to an SGI, not a PC or a IIGS.

: THe IIGS has this one single MONO (don't even claim Stereo cause I know it
: isn't!) sound chip...the inexpensive 16-bit sound cards of today blow away the

You are 100% wrong. The least you could have done was some research
on the IIGS hardware before you started blasting it out of the sky.
It's a stereo chip; heck, according to the pinout and discussions
i've listened to, the thing is capable of doing Surround Sound w/
the correct stereo/SS card. Very very studly. :-)

: IIGS little sound. They have 16-bit CD quality sound, 44.1 MHZ playback,

If I wanted CD quality, i'd listen to a CD. :-) Plus, I have yet
	to see a PC which can play 44.1MHz w/ some full-screen 1024x768x16.8m
animation going on. Try 22Mhz w/ 320x200x256. Ya, that sounds more
	like it.

: upgrades; however, they do not match the quality of true 486 computers. Intel
: 386's (33dx or 40dx) are better than an upgraded 386. But what you claimed is

Side note: if I was gonna buy a 386 or 486, i'd buy AMD.

: straight...your IIGS, like I said, is nothing mroe than an upgraded 8-bit
: computer. My PC is not. There is no way of upgrading the 8088 to a 386 or

(shakes his head) Upgraded 8 bit. OK, lets see. So, an SGI is an
upgraded 64 bit machine? Ooo... Hmm. SGI would shoot you for that :-)

: Have a great time playing your Apple II software on your IIGS...I have to go
: do some real work on a real computer...something you wouldn't know about.

I think your problem is that you're too narrow minded, just like
the majority of PC users out there.

Myself? Hell, i've worked, and worked HAPPILY on everything.
All of the Apple II series, Macintoshes (just about all), PCs of
all kinds, an SGI, UNIX-platforms (my favourite), Amigas, and
just about everything out there (ya, even a Commodore 64 at one
time. And I was happy with it too). I'm not narrow minded with
machines; they're all different. Certain machines can get things
done a lot more efficiently than others. For instance, an SGI
can get 30 filled-polygon shapes, animated or not, on the screen
in the snap of a finger, while your PC will be sitting there at
a crawl (my IIGS would be dead, unless they used fillmode).
For that, I would use an SGI. For sound, i'd prefer to use my
IIGS, or if I didn't have it, a PC w/ a Gravis UltraSound.

See, I feel you need to reach out more. I hope someone who uses
a SunSparcStation 20 comes and smacks you upside the head some-
	day. :-)

As i've always said: My $0.02 (w/out sales tax; i'm in Oregon).

Thanx to Evan for posting Dans' comments. :-)
