Well, I use the Finder.

I backed up my HD file-by-file (onto flopticals, just copying files), then
repartitioned it into 20MB pieces (20256 blocks each) with the RamFAST
utilities.  Then I copied everything back on.

Now, when I want to back up my HD, I use "Volume copy" to copy the entire
20MB partition onto the floptical.  My 100MB HD has 4 20MB partitions with
stuff on them, and 1 partition that I use as a scratch area.  Flopticals
aren't very fast, so if I want to do a lot of manipulation I copy the
floptical to the scratch area, do stuff with the files, then copy it back.

Since copying 20MB only takes about 5 minutes, I can back up 80MB in
about 20 minutes.  Used to take longer than that to back up my 20MB
InnerDrive to floppies.

I got the idea for doing things this way from Lunatic at the last KansasFest.
