  I have not personally seen any of Dr. Tom's "experiments", but by all
accounts they were nothing more than the original programs with their
title/author strings modified.  This is not what I would call "learning
to program".  It's the sort of thing that a High School computer dork
would do.
  (In fact, when I was writing AppleSoft programs for my Apple //+ in
Year 11, which I gave away to anyone who was interested in using them,
guess what I often saw a few days later--these same people using that
program with *their* name on the title screen!  Oh happy, happy, joy,
joy!  Fortunately for me, these people didn't know how to bload, modify
and bsave my assembly language programs, so those programs were safe from
their egotistical and childish modifications at least...)
