- Summary: have stuffed the only sos disk I have!
Hi
I am an apple II fan and have been since the early 80's anyway I
was rumaging though my fave. junk shop the other day and came across
2 apple /// 's (3's). I decided I would get one and ended up taking
both home :-)
Any way here is my problem:
One of the machines had an Applewriter/// disk in it this booted
quite happily. But I wanted to get an SOS prompt, so I managed to
get this -> prompt through one of the menu's in the applrwriter program
in the process of trying to workout what it was I pressed the w key.
Found out what it was, its some form of monitor right ? coz I just
wrote to my one and only disk with SOS on it....
So now when I boot the machine with the disk I get the SOS banner
then in the bottom right hand corner up pops this message
in inverse tex "SYSTEM FAILURE = $01". and promptly dies :-(
Any way I fired up the apple II+ I have and using locksmith managed to
see that all the files are indeed still intact
I can copy the disk but this only transfers the problem
(Note I should have done this before stuffing around, oh well live
and learn :-) )
I know the boot sector for the SOS is on sector 1 and not 0 like
dos, yet because I get to the banner I know I haven't stuffed that
so my conclusion is that I have stuffed the sos.kernel
If any one has any ideas on how I can save my copy or help me out with
a version of the SOS software it would be much appreciated.
Also if anyone has any software for this machine I would be interested
as I have this feeling that dos3.*/Prodos stuff wont run under SOS.
Maybe there is an emulator for this purpose or some way to boot
another Dos ontop of the old one......
Any way thanks for your help
