Apple Extended- No function keys, no inverted-T arrows, smaller &
cheaper. Control key is in the same row as asdf, etc.
Apple Extended II - Fcn keys, inverted-T arrow keys, larger, and
more expensive (around $150 new). Control is in same row as spacebar.
Aside from certain 'religious' differences about where the control
key should go, that;s the main set of differences between them. Note
that most GS programs (excepted are ones from programmers who have
Extended Kbds, like Bill Tudor's Edit-16, and random programs from
SoftDisk G-S like WWPro 2.0 and Shortcuts) don't know/care about the
function keys.
I personally like the feel of the Extended II, and could get over
the control moving, it had inverted-T arrow keyas, and I had enough
desk space for the keyboard (it's maybe twice as deep and 5 inches
longer than the std GS keyboard), so I got it.
If you just want a replacement keyboard that acts a lot like the
regular GS keyboard, the Extended is for you.
Just my thoughts.
(I use about 6-7 different keyboard styles regularly, so I am used to
switching styles... SGI, Sun (2 variants), NeXT, Extended II on my GS
and random Macs, IBM (n variants, where n -> infinity).... The
Extended II is definitely my favorite, followed closely by the SGI)
