Many thanks to all who posted or wrote me regarding alternatives for IIGS
monitor repair or replacement.  I ended up getting a new Applecolor RGB
monitor (just like the original one) from Alltech for $225 plus S/H (as I
recall), and it's working nicely.  It outgassed and smelled a bit for the
first 12-24 hours of being run (been in the plastic inside the box a bit
long? :-), but that's stopped now.
