Re: Disclaimer from Lunatic re: 1WSW

In our last episode, tolsen@netcom.com (Terry R. Olsen) said:

Actually, of late it seems some quite reasonable people have been drafted
into 1WSW (there's no reason why this wouldn't happen; in fact, in the
absence of alternatives, it's reasonably likely to happen). "Dr. Tom" is a
loon, however. My advice to the people who seem sincere (and sane) within
1WSW would be to disassociate themselves from him (forming yet another new
"group" is a likely option). If this is difficult because of a personal
association with (or possibly even a liking for) Turley, you might want to
inform the guy of why misrepresentation is frowned upon. Even then, moving
away from the rather stigmatised "1WSW" title might be wise. It's
particularly ironic to see the stresses on copyright in some parts of the
stack, given the fact that all Dr. Tom's "releases" have been essentially
stolen.

This is a bit harsh; as above, Turley is unquestionably loony, but I found
Ponglife pretty reasonable overall. I originally wasn't going to download it
at all ("more VAMPS crap", I thought), but your comments led me to. The
mountain graphics sub-stack was nicely done (in fact, the whole thing was
generally nicely done, if understandably sparse). Lim Thye Chean has just
posted a good, critical review of MultiGS that makes it sound quite
impressive, and potentially (with the usual bugfixes) superior to the
commercial alternatives. Having seen this, I'll probably download future
issues if they come over cba2 (putting all this stuff on GEnie is losing,
guys). As you can see above, I've also had to reevaluate some of the people
in 1WSW (something I didn't expect to do).

More importantly, however, whatever the diskzine is, it's a good deal more
trouble than I've gone to recently (and the same is probably true of you).
I was almost disappointed by the lack of Dr. Tom inspired loonyhype (tm).
(I dunno what their problem with MegaTerm was, though, I found it pretty
good as far as displaying colour ANSI from peecee boards goes).

I'm not sure where you get this from...probably applies to Turley, but
incrimination by merest association went out with the Spanish Inquisition.
(It's also, of course, characteristic of most people's evaluative process...)
