I have to agree with Joseph - get the FaxModem (it isn't much cheaper to buy
sans Fax, and it's had to find a plain modem nowadays...).
 
Re: fax software - I know Q-Labs is working on TimeOut FAX, and I have heard of
at least one other Fax program for the GS.
 
In addition, I just got software for UNIX fax mgetty which replaces the standard
dialin routine, and may eventually port it for GNO/ME (but not for a while).
 
So, relatively soon you should have AppleWorks, Desktop, and possibly GNO
fax utilities.
