I'm not sure if this is similar to your problem, but I have noticed that
on occasion, HFS disks formatted on my GS will not be read properly. The
Macs occasionally will indicate that the disk is damaged. It seems that
Macs are a little more sensitive to the bulk floppies I use.

On another semi-related note, I've noticed that there is a new HFS format
on the Macs that is completely uncompatible with the HFS FST in System
6.*. This format also seems incompatible with older Macs with 800k
drives. While I can understand the possible need for perhaps a more
efficient floppy disk format, I don't understand why it needs to apply to
800k disks.
