This is a very common problem (if it's the one I'm
thinking of.) It's not the actual monitor, but the
video lead going to the monitor.
As these leads age, they seem to have lots of
problems, especially if you still have the original
Apple lead.

The 'swaying' is caused by resistance in the lead
causing the horizontal sync/timing to oscillate
very slowly somehow.
The simple fix (which has worked for everyone I
know who had this problem) is to _replace_the_lead_.

Standard RCA audio type leads should work fine.
