sider daisy-chain info

In reply to Jeff W. Schroeder who wrote about daisy chaining
two sider 10 meg
drives....

After hooking it up, run the install utilities, but when the
utility asks if
this is sider 1 or 2, answer "2".

I assume you will want to partition the max on Prodos & the
mininmum on the
other operating systems....you'll be prompted for that stuff
too...

Next, you must convert the "PHANTOM SLOT" program off of the
floppy to
sider one, (probably called /HARD1/) with the convert utility.

At the applesoft prompt type "-PHANTOM.SLOT" and press
return...then at the
prompt, enter a slot number that is currently unoccupied on
your apple....

Sider 1 should now contain directories /HARD1/ and /HARD2/ &
the other
sider will have /HARD3/ & /HARD4/.

*** If you want to avoid booting into basic and running PHANTOM
SLOT every
time, put BASIC SYSTEM & Prodos 8 v1.9 (or higher) on /HARD1/
and rename
PHANTOM.SLOT, STARTUP. In addition, add this line to the end of
the startup
program:
(use whatever line number works)
10000 ?CHR$(4)"BYE"

This will put you in Prodos quit code menu. You can then boot
sys files
directly and tab your way through the drives. If you want to
run BASIC files,
create a subdirectory with BASIC.SYSTEM inside it so the
startup program won't
boot.

If you need a copy of the Sider installer program or any info
from the manual,
please e-mail me at
<revry@tjhsst.vak12ed.edu> or
<revry@cap.gwu.edu>
Allow me about a week or so to get back to you, because I have
hundreds of
pieces of mail a day, a system with a 2400 baud speed limit
that now
only gives me an hour a day to download mail & stuff.

Best,
Ron
