I am trying to connect an Apple LaserWriter to my IIgs. I know that there
are at least two ways to go about this, AppleTalk and serial communications.
I have tried some configurations with a serial line, but as yet, have not
been able to get GS/OS to print to the LaserWriter. I was, however, able
to get PostScript errors from the printer to show up on the computer when
I loaded my communications program.
Since I have a ROM 01 IIgs, the AppleTalk option will require that I move
my SCSI interface out of Slot 7. This will mean change in the boot sequence
(HD is now after the floppy drives rather than before), and will also mean
that I will lose the use of something else (like the modem port). I also
have an ImageWriter II with the IIgs that I would like to continue to use,
but it does not have the AppleTalk option installed. Ideally, I would like
to keep it connected to the IIgs at the same time the LaserWriter is
connected, to eliminate the need for cable swapping, changes to the control
panel, or a printer switch.
Anyone have any ideas/comments/suggestions?
