I have had some experience w/ Mac <-> IIgs networks, and the only time I
have had this happen is when there are no other active Macs on the network.
The system software seems to wait around as if polling the net for a
computer.  You didn't say waht you were using appletalk with, but I suspect
this is the problem.  Sorry, I don't know an easy way around it...
