The WDC chip IS the Sanyo chip. WDC just bought it from Sanyo and put
their own labels on it.

: they say "-10" meaning they are rated at 10Mhz BUT are pushed to speeds
: past 10 Mhz. Even WDC forces you to read a file regarding the chip and

This chip is rated at 10 mhz for normal 5 volts power. This means at
5 volts, WDC will GUARANTEE to you that the chip will run reliably at
that speed.

As I remember it, WDC had a engineering grade chip that was rated at
10 mhz and had some design flaws that made some instructions unreliable
at or near 10 mhz. But, Sanyo made their own version of the chip which
was stable and rated it at 14 mhz.

: how you cab 'push' it pas 10 Mhz! just finished talking to one of the

That's strange, I asked Long when I last saw him about the chip and he
said the chip was rated at 13 mhz.

: of fact he has a "65816E" and a few other buds of mine have more of those

: am running it at 14Mhz! Sure we had to increase the voltage, sure we had
: to change the logic chips and add some caps and cut a few traces. I know

These are modifications to the Zip to make it support 10+ mhz. Seems more
of pushing the board than the cpu.

: all this by experience not just reading FAQ's! Don't beliave me, call WDC
: and ask for a 14Mhz rated chip, and they will send you a "-10" not a "-14"

10 in decimal or hexadecimal? If it's hexadecimal, then it's 16 mhz. :)

: It costs US$95.00 weather you get a "-6" or a "E" or "-10" (which is the
: production model!

I checked my W65C816SPL-E and the dash was at the edge of the chip so
anything afterwards was cut off. I don't see a -6, -E, -10, so is it a
production model?

Btw, NAUG members can get their chips for US$71.25.

: I do not need the faq, I have mine at 15Mhz and there are some things

Most of the the Zip info in the FAQ comes from posts from Long about how
and what he did to his Zip. But if you got better info, tell us about it.
